The Nordic Leisure Centre is open every day between Easter and 31st October.

The Waveney Inn, the on-site pub, is the focal point of the Park. The pub has a friendly atmosphere and is open all day every day from Easter to October and lunchtimes & evenings throughout the winter. New for 2007 is the family bar and games room, where parents can enjoy a drink & a meal whilst the kids play. There is regular entertainment throughout the season, with Sunday Quiz Nights and music most Fridays; and don't be surprised to find the landlord crooning the night away with his guitar if he's in the mood...

Wildlife Area - For 2009 and 2010 we are introducing a small wildlife area, situated beside a marsh soke dyke close to the Pub garden. As it develops, the area will include:

  • winding walkways through native wildflowers;
  • a stumpary - an area of tree stumps in managed decay to encourage insect life;
  • willow dens for children, created using pollarded willow from trees on site;
  • log benches and grass seats;
  • a pond dipping activity station;
  • interpretative signage.

In partnership with the adjacent landowner and South Norfolk District Council, we hope also to introduce a nature walk along the river floodwall and across the marshes, accessed via footbridges to and from the wildlife area.

Boat Hire:
No Broadland holiday is complete without a trip on the river to explore the famous Norfolk & Suffolk Broads. Waveney River Centre is an ideal departure point for a day on the river.

If you prefer the more tranquil waters of the southern broads then Waveney River Centre at Burgh St Peter is an ideal starting point, with the pretty market town of Beccles just 1.5 hours upstream and Oulton Broad with its large children's park about 20 minutes downstream. Somerleyton with its famous stately home and maze, and the riverside village of Reedham are other popular destinations within an hour's cruise.

There is a wide range of vessels to suit most budgets and requirements, from rowing boats and canoes to luxury day cruisers with galley, WC and cabin - many of which have been built on-site by our craftsmen here at Waveney River Centre. Buoyancy aids and fuel or paddles are included in the price and you will be given tuition before setting off on your adventure.

Norfolk Broads Guides & Maps

Location:

Situated on the River Waveney in the southern Norfolk Broads, this is a perfect base from which to explore Beccles and Oulton Broad by boat, whilst Norwich, Great Yarmouth and Lowestoft are within 30 minutes by car.

The Norfolk & Suffolk Broads

The Broads is the largest wetland in Britain and is specially protected with the equivalent status of a national park. There are six rivers connecting forty broads, making over 200km of waterways in all, and just waiting to be explored. Each Broad was once a medieval peat digging which was flooded to become a shallow lake after the peat was dug for fuel. Water, reeds, marshes and tangled woodlands make up the Broadlands landscape - a haven for birds and wildlife.

Broadland meets the sea at Lowestoft and Great Yarmouth, two bustling seaside towns with first class beaches to be enjoyed. Places to visit include nature reserves, churches, windmills, craft centres, and numerous riverside villages with pubs, shops and restaurants. At the western end of the river Yare is the historic city of Norwich. With its 900 year old Cathedral, Norman castle, museums, theatres, market place and shopping centre, Norwich is the capital of Broadland. Regatta and other boating events are part of life on the Broads. Ashore you will also find lots of local events, such as carnivals, and fetes to add to the fun.
