For the outdoor enthusiast, there are a huge number of opportunities and as a result the area has always been popular with tourists. There is sailing, windsurfing, diving and sea fishing on Loch Ailort and the Sound of Arisaig. Roshven Mooring Association offers the opportunity to rent a mooring on Loch Ailort. In addition to the sea fishing, salmon and sea
trout fishing can be rented on local rivers and lochs. There are golf courses at Arisaig (13 miles) and Resipole (18 miles) in addition to the course at Fort William. There are an abundance of listed walks and cycle ways and magnificent
hills such as Roisbheinn are on the doorstep. The Nevis Range ski centre, Scotland's newest ski centre, offers fabulous runs when conditions allow and the gondola is popular with tourists throughout the year.
Many bird watchers and animal lovers come to the area and Roshven was home to Jemima Blackburn, the renowned 19th century painter who features wildlife in many of her paintings.
There is a local shop in Glenuig providing a range of grocery items and a doctors surgery in Arisaig. Fort William offers a wide range of high street shops, banks, professional firms, medical centre and hospital. In addition, there are leisure centres, swimming pools, museums and the Nevis Activity Centre which offers a wide range of outdoor activities.
The small sheep and highland cattle farm is on the shores of Loch Ailort, a sea loch that opens into the Sound of Arisaig. The highest hill for quite a distance - Roisbheinn - rises steeply out of the loch at the back of the farm to just under 3,000 feet. For the adventurous, the views from the top are almost too spectacular to describe.
Roshven Farm Chalets are in an excellent position for those who want to tour Lochaber and even further afield - whether it is a boat trip to Skye and the Small Isles, a ride on the steam train or just a walk in the hills. There is a wealth of history in Moidart, not least the associations with Bonnie Prince Charlie and the Jacobite movement; and with all the natural flora and fauna you will run out of time to see and do it all.

Fishing
At Roshven, you can fish for brown trout in the burn (mountain stream) near the chalet, or from the rocks on the shores of Loch Ailort for cuddies and occasionally mackerel. One of our visitors even caught a 6lb lobster, but this does not happen very often! Of course, if you have a boat your chances are much better, but it's all good fun and it's free. We can arrange salmon and sea trout fishing in local lochs and rivers in the area but we need to know in advance.
