Lying in a fold in thickly wooded hillsides, Rudyard Lake is a haven of peace and tranquility less than a mile from the A523 that links Leek to Macclesfield. The two and a half mile long lake was created more than two centuries ago to supply water for the then expanding canal system of the West Midlands. Today it is a popular day out, offering walking, boating, sailing and Angling: Rudyard was once the northern mecca for match angling and even today many angling clubs fish regular matches at the lake. Day ticket angling is available and the ranger comes to you to collect the daily fee of £4 for adults and £3 for juveniles/OAPs. Please note that NRA rod licences are required. The lake is open all year round. Boat Launching: Many people bring their boats for a day's sailing on Rudyard Lake, launching from the slipway at the damhead. There is a smal launch fee per boat, size dependent Boat hire: Rowing boats (ex Regents Park Lake in London) can be hired mainly during the summer months at a cost of £5 an hour. They carry up to four people and buoyancy aids are available. |
